What are the Mentor’s Responsibilities?

 

The Mentor’s responsibilities include:

 

·       be knowledgeable of and skilled in various teaching styles and standards-based practices;

·       provide support and constructive feedback to a beginning teacher for 1-2 years around effective teaching competencies including planning, classroom management, instruction and assessment of student learning;

·       understand the needs of beginning teachers and the resources available to them;

·       enlist the support of other educators for the beginner;

·       make the beginning teacher aware of and encourage him/her to attend content support seminars;

·       observe the beginning teacher and arrange for him/her to observe in other classrooms;

·       assist in the creation of all sections of the beginning teacher’s portfolio;

·        exemplify being a professional educator and a life-long learner.
