Battle at The Barn II Esports Sponsorship Opportunities
We are back for the 2nd annual Battle at the Barn tournament. After last year’s success, we have decided to continue to grow the offerings at the event. The tournament spans over 2 days featuring Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Rocket League, and OverWatch 2. Each day will have a separate title and title champion, so over the course of the weekend there will be a Saturday winner and Sunday winner for both High school and collegiate teams. Simultaneously, as matches occur, the Lafayette Jefferson and McCutcheon’s High School’s robotics teams will be onsite providing demos throughout the days. Throughout both days there are many activities available for community members to attend and experience. They include:
-
Robots, drones, artificial/virtual reality headsets
- Purdue University Libraries Dead/Retro Media Lab
- Old School gaming equipment such as:Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation (all generations)
- Sessions on how to build a Raspberry Pi retro gaming arcade
- zSpace Artificial/Virtual Reality Learning Experiences
- US Army Gaming Equipped Truck
- National Guard Gaming Equipped TruckConcessions provided by Lafayette Jefferson’s Culinary Classes
Esports have been growing year after year to an over $1 billion-dollar industry. There has been an expected 26.6 million monthly esports viewers in the United States in 2021, which is expected to grow to 29.6 million in 2022. Our students in Indiana are part of this trend as well. We have seen growth of students and schools playing esports. Starting in 2018 with 13 schools, to our Fall Competition having 72 schools, and Spring Competition growing more, the students in our state are migrating towards esports involvement.
In-person tournaments are important for students so they can actually meet their opponents, instead of just playing against a name on the internet. This is critical for students' growth as they start to recognize there are people behind the names that have feelings, emotions, and is a human too. We have built an online presence for our schools, but in-person play will help students to grow as competitors and people as they meet with the faces behind the names they have seen during on line play. We believe the social part of esports is important just like any other sport.
An event such as this will allow students to grow as a person by letting them see their opponent in person and interact with them person to person. This event will give the students an opportunity to perform in front of colleges so they can assess their skills and work with them. This will also bring people into the state, specifically the Lafayette area for a collegiate tournament that will be open to any college or university that would like to attend.
With this being a large tournament, we are heavily reliant on financial assistance to see the event through. With sponsorship we continue to grow and offer experiences like these for our students and communities.
